This Portuguese demo spans two municipalities, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Barcelos, and focuses on building a scalable Renewable Energy Community capable of managing complex energy flows between households, public buildings, and local businesses. The pilot integrates blockchain technologies for transparent P2P energy trading, advanced smart-metering infrastructures, and AI-driven platforms that provide personalised consumption feedback. SOCIAREM uses this site to test new market models, assess the viability of distributed flexibility services, and understand how communities react to different engagement strategies. The goal is to show how small-to-medium communities can transition from basic PV adoption to a fully interactive, data-driven REC.
