Fondo Saccà — Energy Justice Community

An inclusive, socially responsive energy community in Sicily

The Fondo Saccà demo centres on creating an inclusive and socially responsive Renewable Energy Community within a regenerated neighbourhood in Sicily. The site combines photovoltaic generation, energy storage, and solar thermal systems with public-access buildings including a library, educational facilities, and social spaces.

The initiative tests tools designed to promote equitable energy distribution, using vulnerability indicators, participation metrics, and financial capacity assessments to ensure energy benefits reach low-income and underserved groups.

Beyond technology, it strengthens community cohesion, improves local services, and supports energy justice, exploring digital tools for fair resource sharing, federated data approaches, and energy literacy through interactive activities.
