A cooperative-led renewable energy community
The Portugal demo site is led by CEVE, a long-established energy cooperative responsible for electricity distribution in the Vale d'Este region. CEVE's unique position as a Distribution System Operator (DSO) makes this site an ideal environment for testing community-scale REC models.
SOCIAREM deploys its PV optimisation, P2P energy trading, and network simulation tools within this cooperative framework, testing how digital instruments can support collective self-consumption, fair settlement, and energy poverty reduction.
R&D NESTER leads the technical development of the REC simulation platform validated at this site, while WATT-IS develops the blockchain-based P2P trading layer.

What SOCIAREM tests in Portugal
Deploy a cooperative-led REC in Vale d'Este, leveraging CEVE's existing distribution infrastructure to enable collective PV ownership and self-consumption.
Test blockchain-based peer-to-peer energy exchange mechanisms with transparent billing and settlement, enabling fair energy distribution among community members.
Validate tools for DSO-level grid management, network simulation and real-time monitoring to ensure stable integration of distributed renewable generation.
Demonstrate how cooperative models and digital tools developed in Portugal can be replicated across other rural and semi-urban communities in Europe.
