The University of Groningen celebrates Europe Day with a dedicated stand to SOCIAREM
8D – Games showcased the project along with infographics and interactive materials available to the general public
Brussels, 9 May 2026
The SOCIAREM project was presented on Friday, May 9th 2026, on the occasion of Europe Day at a public event in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, organised by Campus Fryslân (University of Groningen) as part of the national Europe Day celebrations supported by the European Commission. The project was showcased through a public stand aimed at engaging students and local communities in discussions on sustainability and the energy transition, in line with EU priorities on innovation, resilience and citizen participation.
Europe Day and the EU framework for innovation
Europe Day highlights the importance of European cooperation in addressing shared challenges, from climate change and social cohesion to economic resilience and innovation. Celebrated across cities and regions, it makes visible how European policies and programmes translate into concrete actions at local level, directly benefiting citizens.
This year’s Europe Day theme, “Limitless Discovery, emphasises the role of EU‑funded initiatives in fostering knowledge, innovation, and societal impact close to home. Within this framework, Horizon Europe, the EU’s main funding programme for research and innovation, supports projects that contribute to the green and digital transitions. SOCIAREM forms part of this broader European effort, aligning research, social innovation, and citizen engagement to help build a more inclusive and sustainable energy future.
Bringing sustainability closer to citizens
At the Europe Day market, Nicole Van Den Berg, Science Communication & Research Support at 8D Games, presented the project through a dedicated stand, combining visual materials, printed resources and a set of infographics designed for the general public. The infographics provide an overview of SOCIAREM’s toolkit for a greener future, introducing the project’s main tools and how they can support citizen engagement in the energy transition.
Through clear and accessible visuals, the materials outline the purpose of these tools and their practical application, helping visitors understand the project’s approach and objectives. The infographics presented at the event are also available online on the project’s website, extending their reach beyond the Europe Day celebrations.
